Celtic Veterans Roundhouse IMPLEMENTED
The Celts have come a long way in recent times in this game, doubling their number of units. I want to take them further (yes, I am a Celt myself) so that their roster is full enough to play with, like the Norse or Roman factions, but first they need a home.
I suggest a Ring-Fort, just a basic defensive structure, but one that acts as a base. It would be similar in logistics to Nordic Hall or Dojo, so
Cost 5
HP 40
But to reflect that it was a defensive structure rather than a normal building, increased armour compared to it's equivalents, of 2/5, and allows garrisoned units to attack as with towers, although has no attack itself.
Garrison of 3.
In it, all Celtic units would be trained (obviously) plus any techs that relate to Celtic units (warpaint atm, but others such as spacious chariots or wheelblades should Celtic chariot be accepted, and any other relevant techs in the future).

Sounds good. Celts definitely needs a factory.

Re: Building for the Celts
Could someone with the necessary skills make a sprite for this please, I wouldn't even know how to begin.
Be pretty difficult to make a ringfort look decent in 1x1 size, I'm thinking perhaps a bit of artistic license and making it look like a simple motte-and-bailey.

Re: Building for the Celts
I would gladly make one if I know how to create buildings but perhaps someone could? I only made about 3 buildings in my time in the forum. Mostly for Aod but all of them were trash.phoenixffyrnig wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 10:11 am Could someone with the necessary skills make a sprite for this please, I wouldn't even know how to begin.

I agree with the stats and function.
As for image - phoenix, please attach image link to let people see how it could even look. Maybe it will inspire someone ?

Re: Building for the Celts
Something along these lines, but to make it simpler the tower can be moved inside the ring wall.

I fixed your link. BBC probably cannot process https.
Motte and bailey fits more for a mega building.
Afer some search I think more like a single factory would look this:

Re: Building for the Celts
Haha, forgive my technological ineptitude.
Yeah, motte and bailey was really a visual compromise to make it look nicer than just a couple of rings of defences. It was my intention for a 1x1 building.
The old hillforts / ringforts would have been as big or little as needed but wouldn't look very good as a sprite in this game. I was hoping for something a bit grander than a mud hut since it fills similar training functions as a roman garrison, but I'm not sure what would fall in between those two points.

I think buildings for AOS should look like 3d, not face flat
Re: Building for the Celts
Ringfort would be ideal for future mega building.

Looks nice. Maybe making the ring walls palisades? And adding a team colored flag pole of some sort.

Re: Building for the Celts
I've been looking into this a bit, seems like they mainly lived in what are now called Roundhouses. It would appear that these varied in size from a mere hovel to a larger dwelling for the more important Celts. There are Roman accounts of the ancient Chieftain Caratacus referring to "our poor huts" so I think it is safe to assume Roundhouse would be the correct name, (or Celtic Roundhouse if we want to infer the faction too).
Looks good to me - I agree with Quaddy, maybe make the outer wall wood coloured, if possible with spiky top too.
As for research-able techs, obviously Warpaint should be there. What about Chariot techs too (bladed wheels and spacious chariots) if the Celtic War chariot is to be accepted?

Re: Building for the Celts
Nice one Endru, this Celtic warlord approves
Only if you can be bothered, but I think it's quite a cool idea, the Roundhouses didn't have a chimney, just a hole in the middle of the roof - would be kinda cool to have smoke coming out of the occupied version.

Re: Building for the Celts
Since we already have an accepted viking warlord and most factions has a war buffer unit e.g. Centurion, daimyo, condottiero. is it possible to have a gaelic chieftain or high chief? A buffer and fighter unit for the celts. It could be infantry same as the viking warlord. Cost 6, High speed(4), little armor, high damage, high morale aura, medium health and moderate anti infantry bonuses is on my mind. Img can be a tall half naked barbarian with warpaint wielding a longsword and a small round shield.

Re: Building for the Celts
I was potentially going to go in a slightly different direction with the chieftain, but was intending to wait for the dust to settle and the new units finalised before deciding, but since you bring it up (and seeing as you and me seem to be Team LetsMaketheCeltsBada55) I'll pop it up in a new topic and you and me can bat our ideas round a bit and see what we come up with.
Assuming they get a solid anti-cav unit too, I only had one other suggestion in my locker, (atm) a Celtic Rider - even though they were mainly an infantry based race the higher status hairy beasts certainly did use horses when the need arose, but I want to see how your Celtic Chariot gets finalised too so they don't occupy the same niche.

Re: Building for the Celts
How about something less standard for a buffer - chariot javelineer (3 range affected only with melee upgrades) with regular high morale aura?

Re: Building for the Celts
They should also have a debuffer unit. A warcry related thing.
Intresting..but why high morale aura?
We have hobelars on hold for the celtic light cav. Idk what image to make bt there is already a hobelar img (needs confirming). Did the celts have Healy cavalry? Information about the celts is scarce in google. I can't find specific things. But what I found is this : The small size of Celtic horses meant that the Celtic heavy cavalry of north-western and central Europe appear to have been employed as heavy skirmisher cavalry, rather than the shock cavalry of the Middle East and North Africa, the heavy cavalry of Gaul and Celtiberia being widely regarded as some of the finest.phoenixffyrnig wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 1:20 pm Celtic Rider - even though they were mainly an infantry based race the higher status hairy beasts certainly did use horses when the need arose, but I want to see how your Celtic Chariot gets finalised too so they don't occupy the same niche.

Re: Building for the Celts
Because I meant it as proposed warlord.Intresting..but why high morale aura?
Even in roman descriptions charioteers of celts were often elites.
Why not make leader/warlord charioteer?

Re: Building for the Celts
OK, we'll stir this idea into our cooking pot too then - I've started a new topic for the Chieftain
Yeah, regarding horses, they were a status symbol (real horses as opposed to the smaller pony types). But they really wouldn't have been anything like professional cav. My thoughts so far on a rider was something around standard knights HP, but much lower attack (with boni so they can still do in workers, healers, weak foot and missile) so they wouldn't be able to go toe to toe with real cavalry. But yeah, waiting to see what becomes of the hobilar and chariot.
It was quite a region dependant thing, the mountainous regions would only have used the hobbie/pony type, mainly because of terrain, but also because they were poorer regions. Whereas the less rugged regions, being richer from better farmland and further south, so nearer to Europe for trade with ports would have had riders, but they were more like infantry on horseback rather than trained knights.

Re: Building for the Celts
Great idea. Most leader units were mounted on horses so chariots would be a fine addition. Idk about elephant x leader unit. Maybe for the future asian factions.
I made an image on chieftain topic.

From the other side pending headhurlers can suit that role.
