Goblins mountainwalking — ARCHIVED
Speaking about megabuildings we talked about how some of these, like the kingdom under the mountain and the volcano, should be buildable on mountain ground
I don't say I disagree but that bring a few mechanical problems for orcs since while dwarves can make tunnels to allow them to move over (or more correctly, under) the mountains, orcs can't do it and thus they could make their megabuilding on mountain ground only by building it starting from non-mountain ground (which is less than suboptimal).
I think we might turnaround this problems in a few ways:
1) goblins get mountainwalking by defalt (at least 1 tile)
2) goblins get mountainwalking after researching a tech
3) goblin slaves can build tunnels like dwarven workers can (the same or similar but the result doesn't change much)
4) We might allow current walls and tower to be built over mountains (since basically they are smaller versions of the volcano) and make workers act from the inside
I think 1 would make sense because goblins already make shelters and towers that are basically stone piles and similar and also we have but that might be too advantageous and that's why I tought about 2 (that might have goblin shout as a requirement). The only problem left is that not every unit inside the volcano has mountainwalking (I think the ettin should since it is a full size giant but anyway that would make a volcano built on mountain ground almost useless). 3 would solve everything since every unit would be able to walk the tunnels to go out of the volcano.

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
I prefer №3.
They can already build carved monster caves on mountain tiles.
But their tunnel must take lonher time than dwares ones to build (3 turns) while having less hp.

It is ok to make them weaker but I think that 3 turns would take to long to make for tunnels that you basically build around a mega buildingmakazuwr32 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 6:40 pm I prefer №3.

I think that 2 is fair for a primitive tunnel

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
I've suggested it before to give them a more fragile tunnel. Still cost 2, but much less armored and hp.

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
We could go with 2, just to make it a little balanced. Would this affect all goblins btw?
Also I think the dwarf guard tower and walls plus the orc walls and orc mini volcano should be buildable on mountains as well. This does not include future orc towers though unless they be stated otherwise.

No i think towers and walls on mountains for orcs is too much.
Same as for dwarven towers and walls.

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
If we make towers and/or walls on mountains we might not need to make tunnels
They might basically work as tunnel themselves
Anyway i'll put it as a potential idea

The idea is that this might become a racial trait for goblins inspired by this sceneSavra wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 7:01 pm We could go with 2, just to make it a little balanced. Would this affect all goblins btw?

Ya, I know about how goblins live, they are like my number one race I play as. I just suggested it as a option to research this because this might make the workers to op for orcs at start. As for tunnels you could do one of two things:
Make a goblin/sheltered tunnel
Make stone shelter buildable from.

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
I meant that the tech would affect all goblins, not just workers (it makes more sense and it might even justify a higher cost).
About the shelter i like the idea

Which shelter idea?
Sheltered tunnel

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
Isn't that one additional structure when we can basically use an existing one that is already hardly used?

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
How could you say the stone shelter is hardly ever used? Shove some uruk archers, goblin archers, or troll headhunters in their and you got units on the walls that can safely cut down enemy forces without the worry of getting hit.Alexander82 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 12:42 am Isn't that one additional structure when we can basically use an existing one that is already hardly used?
I don't know why that makes it hardly used?

I've generally seen using more towers that have 2 slots and their own attack

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
Sometimes stone piles are useful because of their low turn cost - 3 turns.

Adding mountain walk to all goblins would be op.
Better a tunnel. No. 3

Re: Goblins mountainwalking
I'd say horde wi be given later more costly tunnel (dwarven tunnel cost also will be increased later).
