Skeleton Maul — ARCHIVED
This is a proof of concept kind of thing here, for something I'm thinking for dwarves.
Cost 2
Hp: 15
Power: 5, ignores armor, good against buildings
Armor: 0/4
Speed: 3
Mend rate: 2-3 (slow, can't start a building, but it helps get one built after it's started.)
Includes an armored version in the general skeleton upgrade, as well as a corpse with a hammer (to be dropped by some dwarves, but currently only in map editor or from grave digger) it's an introduction to dwarves and some prep work for their arrival, without doing anything to actually make the whole race. Needs an image for the corpse and itself, but those are pretty much remakes of existing ones.

Re: Hammer skeleton
First, a decent sized longsword is about the same weight as a good sized hammer. Second, these things move by necromantic force, not strength of muscle and sinew, which they lack entirely. That isn't easy to measure by appearance. Third, these are supposed to be dwarf bones, which would be a bit thicker, if shorter, than human, elf, or orc bones.
I'm thinking slightly weaker, armor ignoring attacks will be easy to come by in dwarves, both from hammers and primitive guns. (Think ashigaru musketeer from AoS, but a dwarf version that ignores armor.) and yes, I'm picturing an undead version of that too, that will be only made from dead dwarves, not so easily created since nobody else can craft such weapons. I'll post that later though.

Re: Hammer skeleton
I like the idea but I remember that Daniel told me it wasn't possible to ignore armor.
We might turn around the problem giving it a skill that deal a fixed damage.

Re: Hammer skeleton
Well, that was my idea for musket based attacks. A cooldown 2 "spell" to deal say 15 damage flat. The cooldown simulates reloading. It wouldn't be too far to just have a hammer blow skill for 5 damage flat, no cooldown, as his main attack. A little cumbersome to have to use the extra button, but it gets the job done. Alternatively, as another admittedly cumbersome solution, we could add a third, never shown armor category to every unit in the game, always set to 0. Probably a bit much to do at this point though, so it's likely easier to go the ability route.

Re: Hammer skeleton
I dont like the name much, wouldn't, "Skeleton Maul," would work better for a hammer wielding undead warrior than, "Hammer Skeleton."

Re: Skeleton Maul
Yes. Yes it would. Would you look at that, I think the name just changed to match too thanks for the better name. I don't think I had too good of an idea for what to call it.

Re: Skeleton Maul
The general idea is to bypass armor, dealing decent damage against "wall" units, but on lower armor units it would seem a bit under par. Most dwarf units I expect to have high armor, making them able to slowly whittle away at their enemies from behind thick plate and high shields.
Actually, the lack of a counterattack from treating it as a "spell" plays well into it being a staggering blow. I think that is the best way to go after all.

Re: Skeleton Maul
Can you only adjust a bit the hammer in the image? Try to give the maul a more 3dish style (like an isometric view)

Re: Skeleton Maul
I chose maul because of its weapon choice actually. It would just make more sense that way, I don't think mauler is the appropriate name. Warriors who wielded mauls into battle would probably not be called maulers.

Re: Skeleton Maul
But nobody calls a maul wielder a maulman either?
Nobody does call army soldiers gunman, mortarman, planeman, and tankman either do they?
Skeleton Maul sounds great, why add the suffix to it?

Re: Skeleton Maul
I'm still pretty sure nobody back then called them maulers.
They are just warriors who wield mauls, hence the name Skeleteon Maul. It has ghastly feel to it than Mauler.
