Orc Tech: Throwing - Archived
This tech allows a change of stance for the troll where he become a ranged unit (it loose a turn to change stance) that trows spiked balls that deal high damage against buildings, ents, siege weapon and ships
This tech also allows the production of a giant rock thrower that is a ranged unit that deal area damage.
both unit deal normal damage and not pierce damage. Both unit have bonus against flying units

i would rather make a new troll that can throw.
(not so good making units that are multifunctional - we lose strategy on "well set unit production" section)

I was playing lately and found that the 2nd stance could make the cave troll more useful, because we already have the ettin as a melee heavy hitter that is more mobile than the troll and cost just one turn more.
That way the cave troll becomes the "orc catapult" unit

I think we should add this tech for a troll, but it isn't very powerful or long ranged, just a nice side thing to make trolls more versatile.
I think for the super powerful 12 range beast in the giant marksmen topic, that should probably be an entirely seperate unit imo.

How exactly would this troll throwing tech work with the troll upgrades? Would their be a design change on the troll each time we well as the ball and range?

Well if it doesn't do area damage and doesn't have the same range as the giant then I can see this working.

Maybe with same cooldown as ghost vessel has if this will be good.

That would make more sense then having to create new images for cave trolls every time they get upgraded.

Maybeye make a new unit, because maser trolls are way too OP (except against fire)
Ettin is only useful in the beginning, because it has no movement over mountains an it is more expensive
Master troll has 3 speed over mountains, great for using the Troll heal buff
