Armored water-based structure IMPLEMENTED
Armored water-based structure IMPLEMENTED
Over the last few weeks I've really seen a need for some way to protect my ships from hordes of fire archers and towers. An island map riddled with fire archers makes any ships other than cannon ships essentially useless, and even cannon ships become close to useless if the fire archers have +2 range. This results in a lot of stalemates where neither player can get close to the shore of the other. I would like to propose some type of structure that can be built either on land adjacent to water, or directly in the water, that has stone walls and thus is somewhat resistant to fire archers and can act as a "harbor" or "garage" for ships. The docks are an easy one-hit kill with cannons or trebuchets and 2-3 hits with fire archers. Or, perhaps like the church -> cathedral, maybe a dock could be upgraded in armor, storage, and mend rate.
What do you all think? Would you use such a structure?

I agree, the fact that we need a upgraded version of a dock that heals ships and that we can do invasions on more waterish maps.
Epic Gamer Moment!
Re: Armored water-based structure
An upgraded dock would be nice, but I also think it would be cool if a mending ship could build some sort of water fortress out on open water to act as a kind of hub or waypoint for ships to seek protection when needed.
Re: Armored water-based structure
Ah cool, i like the thought of upgraded docks. What about an upgraded mending ship? Like faster build, higher movement, +1 action. Just a thought..
As for a building in water, I like this also. Maybe like a ship "hospital"

Re: Armored water-based structure
Maybe there needs to be two separate adjustments? I just hate that docks are such easy targets yet everything you build there takes 4-8 turns so you often have 6 turns invested in a cannon ship and something comes along next turn takes it out. I'm thinking along the lines of upgrading it to a "harbor" or on a separate note being able to build a "water fortress". Maybe the "water fortress" can even float 1 space per turn and hold 2-3 ships inside?

Well, that is realistic.
That is why historically, enemies woukd often burn ships at dock. Because they were incredibly hard to rebuild, and they were soft targets.

The day is coming when a single carrot, freshly observed, will set off a revolution.
Re: Armored water-based structure
My idea was to add water mega building - harbor.
It would be armored, but not as much as castle, something maybe like 250 hp (it would work really well for this building to decrease hp scale for mega buildings).
Just like castle it would build a little better/cheaper units (ships in case of harbor).
I even did some sketch for a concept, but never really got myself to do it.
I am adding it here, maybe it will inspire someone.
Red is some sort of brick defensive structure sketch - walls, towers.
Brown means wooden piers.
Grey are stone structure fundaments.
