Celtic war chariot IMPLEMENTED
Celtic war chariot IMPLEMENTED
From a source - Of all European cultures of the ancient world, the Celts are probably the best known charioteers, with some of the most feared wheeled vehicles of the ancient era. Not content just scaring the crap out of their opponents with tattoos, woad and war cries, the Celts also tricked out their combat rides with a host of nasty countermeasures that left their opponents reeling. This included scythed wheels, extra noise to spook opposing horses, and skill to jump from the chariot, fight on foot, and jump back on the chariot again to move along without their opponent able to catch up to engage…hit and run tactics at their best.

Re: Celtic war chariot
As far as I know - celts were known of chariot usage not because being the best, but because using them when almost no one still did, what's more - on a terrain most would think it's not really usable.
Chariot was common before horseback fighting became effective in melee (most tie this to invention of saddle and better breeds of horses). But prevalent only on very flat terrain - chariots didn't really have means to travel any difficult terrain.
By the time they fought with Celts, Romans used chariots only for civilian travel, fun or machine traslnsportation (but it was more cart, than chariot).
They could be shocked by unknown (forgotten) chariot tactics.
But stats seems viable - I would only add missing upgraded chariot bonuses vs buildings - they were infantry on the field of battle after all.

Re: Celtic war chariot
Chariota are affected by infantry armor and swords from blacksmith.
Although image seems a little too dark. Especially the human.

Re: Celtic war chariot
Is it too much to add a throw javelin ability? Was common practice for the Celts

Re: Celtic war chariot
When seen up close, the horse etc. Looks blurry without the linings. I prefer with black linings to keep it a part. And the one I recently posted seems bright enough. Idk what others think though.
Maybe increasing its cost to 5 and adding the ability and additional stats ?phoenixffyrnig wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 9:44 am Is it too much to add a throw javelin ability? Was common practice for the Celts

Re: Celtic war chariot
This could be useful when celtic war chariots cannot go off-road. They can throw javelins as a secondary weapon to finish fleeing enemies.phoenixffyrnig wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 9:44 am Is it too much to add a throw javelin ability? Was common practice for the Celts
Maybe a damage of 6 with a range of 4 ?
With some skirmisher bonuses ?

Re: Celtic war chariot
I'm not sure if it would require and extra turn of cost for this given the complete lack of missiles in the celtic roster...QuadrupoleStrat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 10:11 am

Re: Celtic war chariot
All units should have black outline to keep constistency, although image is indeed brighter and I quite like it.
Maybe just correcting the outline would be good.
Throwing javelins, darts, knives, stones, shooting bows , crossbows or slings - all common practice among any armed forced.
Let's keep this unit straight.
To add specialty - it could have very slow (1 tile) movement in the forest.

Re: Celtic war chariot
I would leave you with 5 speed ... a bigger highlight to be a little better and more expensive, with 2 points more damage, exclusive bonuses against siege machines, a 20 point hp and 2 action points and without armor.
I swore to protect and lead a great order that seeks enlightenment, I was chosen by the great star and I will pour out his fury against anyone who declares himself an enemy!

Re: Celtic war chariot
I think 20 hp with no armour makes it a bit lightweight for a unit that was supposedly one of the best of it's kind. Even with warpaint this comes in at only 24 hp, which doesn't even match an unupgraded 3 turn chariot. In my opinion, the addition of a second attack does not really help a low hp low armoured unit because of the damage taken in counter. 2 actions are really only effective for ranged (ie no incoming counter) or high hp, well armoured units such as the voulier/swardstavier, otherwise the extra action only serves to prep it for the kill next turn with very little benefit.

Re: Celtic war chariot
I'd like to see more chariot units in-game so, continuing ?
i added outlines and tiny new changes to DreJade's charioteer.
I think the image and stats should be fine now.

Re: Celtic war chariot
Finally I've put it.
without being affected by blacksmith to keep consistency with other celts.
Instead unit got 4/2 armor, which perfectly fits being quite capable vs romans (as they don't have consistent to recruit cavalry killer unit - only random).
Edit: Don't mind greyed out text. I'm changing it.
