Similar to submarines it should Cost a little and equiped with light AA, mines and torpedoes

Sort of, easy to be obliterated by small ships very fast good for reconnaisance strong against big vessels.

I like the idea, maybe also has a cheap and fast way to protect ships from planes too.

Erm are there any specific models you have in mind, because you do seem to be describing motor torpedo boats, which a PT (patrol torpedo) boat is exactly.

Well... I'm thinking of the MO-class soviet guard ship (and the 5 models)
The American Huckins, Higgins and Elco.
The german E-boat, S-boat.
The japanese ITO No.1 class.

Those ships where used for hunting subs, anti air defense, to deploy naval mines, etc.

The Royal Navy had the MTB's in service and for
Germany we could use the S 100 serie?

The russian navy used the G5 class Motor torpedo boats
Only 16 tons displacement and a incredible top Speed of 53 knots ( 93kph). 6 or 7 Crew members but only 2 torpedoes and 2 MGs

The US Navy used PT boats(Elco 80):
51 tons
25 yards length
4 torpedo tupes
41 knots Speed
18 Crew members
1 .40mm Cannon (Bofors)
And 2. 12.7mm MG's

how should they be treated then? like the big ships that they can go everywhere? they didn't have such a great range. and certainly more intended for coastal defense.

we have "water" and "deep water" as designable tiles.
maybe we have "shallows" to?

whatever we can restric them using these - dthe only thing someone whould check the maps if all is properly set to these waters.
