Mounting

allows to mount eagles all elven/quick/fire archers.
Cost is 8 turns, researched at Elf archery or at Great tree.
Unlocks ability to mount eagles for Elven/Quick/Fire Archers.

To mount eagle Archer must be near it to use ability.
Mounted eagle loses 1-2 speed and mounted archer loses armor upgrades, but keeps all bow upgrades and dodge arrows. Mounted archer also keeps his damage/abilities (burning weapon/2 actions per turn)

They'll become the most powerful archer unit in the game. And most healthy archer unit also because of arrow dodge, flying and increased health so i think that even 7 gems can be the cost.

Most powerful and healthiest, but accordingly it would also be the most expensive, so it's pretty fair. You get the flight and mobility of the eagle, with the range and attacks of the archer, but the price of both.

And before you also must build the Great tree AND Elf Archery to research "Mounting"

As i said in the Mount Eagles - They'll be mid/late game units for Elves.

i can only imagine it as a general feature like:
- you can set which unit is capable to be "combined"
- you can set which other units are capable to be "combined" with the current unit
- each combination can result in a new unit (that has a separate image + json and everything)
- it is defined somewhere which properties to inherit: unit name, unit hp, enchantments (poison/extra strength)
(! all techs will affect the new unit if it is set to be affected to)
- on the new unit it is set if it can unmount itself or not (to get separated) - and to which unit to get separated... -> this is already set above

sound a little crazy hard :)

Yeah, maybe a specific variant on sacrifice/summon could do it. Yes, this completely heals and resets all status effects, but it's much easier

Alternatively, though a little less desirable, we could just make new units to be trained at the great tree for these.

Yes this is a really good idea. This will make eagle usable. While eagle is on my list of unusable units and it is almost on the last line, along with human warship and undead transportship.

Human warship? Try to fight a orcs merlock spam on water-based map without it,undead transport ship? You need to transport liches,mumies etc throught water somehow,and combo transport+fire skull thrower is nice to fight ships.

and we should not forget the AI ... that is also hard to make the AI "think" on combining units.

Yeah. About that. The ai probably should​ be banned from making eagles to begin with, since I doubt it would really use this well, and dragons are a clearly superior choice over regular eagles.

First at all - the AI will not live for long enough to get serious amount of them.
On the largest map - Millersland - i killed 2 AI (ork and elf, allied) for humans for less than 30 turns.

because ai is weak in other means too. eg.
- making use visely of buffing spells
- the which is best against which type of unit setups (in jsons)
- and so on

Better idea: we can make it by transforming spell with a cost of a mountable unit, so this transform spell cost is eg. a horse right beside caster.

Me too, what about image? Does every specific combination need an specific image or just one ability image for all?

I think that this tech must be only one to allow for all 3 archers to mount.

......I just had a striking realization.

We could just give eagles 1 carry capacity, units can attack while carried. Ents and cavalry are prevented from being carried.

There. No new units, no programming, and no drawing except for a tech.

yes, clever idea, i already thought of this, but i thought this is not a good solution because you would want to see the people riding on it...


but we can also go this way: you have them by carrying the archer, but all unit can have an image definition that is appearing when a specific other unit is inside - however needs coding again.
