Spammers are back

Post by patroid »

Hi,
The only idea i have is that anybody (moderators)
Must unlock new accounts.
This mean you can create a account and write topics or
Themes. But you can see them only on your own.
And if the post is ok the Moderator unlocks all post
of the user. So the Moderator must unlock each account
onetines and later the accounts mesaages are readable for all.

Well, theorically there is a message approving function for new accounts, but it dont work quite well. Each new acount has only 1-2 questioned message.

My first messages had to be approved by an administrator. Is that changed? Because theoretically this should prevent spammers. They tend to begin spamming immediately.
Thanks!

no problem, i handle the deletions myself ;)

the problem is now i can not tell if a normal user tries to register - i get 5-10 requests i think mostly spambots but i have no clue if any of them was a human :)

I've been forum mod from another game a few years ago, maybe i can ask my former CM how they actually prevent spam. Because on those forums i've never seen any spam...

I have all bots now in jail, and also modified the registration texting asking real people to send me an email too on order to get registered.

they are the ones registered earlier than i switched to admin-permission mode.

so no worry a few spams may come (from spambots registered earlier) and will be deleted (their user also will be deleted) - but no new spambot registrations will be.

Hi, guys...New member here...just a heads-up: a forum i used to frequent had an admin who, previously, had been a professional spam-bot sponsor...these are people who set up accounts in forums with security designed to intercept spam-bots...then they turn the bots loose on the forums...unfortunately, the only way to stop them is by banning the accounts as they show up...I've modded and admin'ed several forums, before, and as yet have found no other way to stop them...it's a drag, but that's the interwebz for ya

Yes, i noticed (i just became registered today, remember? Lol)...is it working or is it a huge pain in the butt? We did that on forums i've admin'ed, for awhile, but got to be a full-time job just to certify new accounts...

That's good...but if the game/forum takes off, you'll have a lot of work on your hands...good luck--lol. ;-)

By the way, staffers, don't delete spam-bots of they'll just renew the account...you have to ban the username, the email address and the IP address to keep it from coming back...

Yes, provided you realize they are bots before you allow them access to the forums...sometimes they use a new username and have a human sponsor (i talked about that up there^^), so make sure you ban the IP addresses, at least...

When you ban an IP address, no-one, human or bot, can create an account through that modem anymore, so you won't have to worry about repeat invasions from that particular place anymore...
