Armies (Forum Game)

Post by DoomCarrot »

Thought this might be fun, so why not:

Rules: you have 50 turns/points to “spend” on an army, whic you think can beat that of the comment above you. Battle would occur on a flat grass field with some usual obstacles, at least 40 spaces apart. Any techs required for your army must also be counted into the cost.

To start, the grand legion of the DCPR:

Orthnicopter x2: 10 points
Master skirmishers x4: 8 points
Ballistae x1: 4 points
Pikeman x3: 6 points
Healer x1: 3 points

Master Skirmisher training: 6 points
Flight Tech: 5 points
Ballistics Tech: 8 points

Drake knight x3 24pts
Mage x1 6pts (no fireball tech)
Healer X2 4 pts (AoF cost 2 each, but can't convert)
Worker X5 15 pts
Scout dog X1 1pts

You never said it had to be AoS

Workers immediately start on a wagon and fortresses/outposts to detect assassins. Obviously no catapult, since no ballistics tech. Mage and healers get in wagon, playing backup to the drake knights with lifelink, double strike, and healing as necessary. One good round of fire breath, and that ballista is down. Ornithopters don't stand a chance against drake knights, and anything that escaped round 1 of burning to death would die to double striked trampling dragons that can retreat to heal in safety.

I would suggest we keep AoF posts to one race, to avoid op combinations like troll shaman plus 3 elf druids (one green dragon per turn for free)

My forces will join Samurai's, as we are both Shogunates

Troll Shaman x2: 8 pts
Ettin x2: 16 pts
Orc Axe Thrower x5: 10 pts
Wolf Rider x2: 8 pts
Orc Leader x1: 6 pts
Goblin Slave x2: 4 pts

Everyone is pressing on attack while gobs are building shelters near battlefield.
Now lets see do you have any allies

With that army? I admit, the ettins and orc leader look threatening to drake knights, but some judicious use of their higher speed should be able to thrash the shamans, removing your healing. 2 goblins won't build either a wagon or shelters quickly enough to make a difference. Worst case, we play cat and mouse with you chasing my wagons around while I build guard towers to cover my tracks. Eventually I'll wear your troops out.

You're close though, giant units can definitely hurt my drake knights.

I'd believe it, depending on strategy. That's a lot of firepower, with flying to even be able to damage drake knights. It doesn't have much hp, so you'd have to work fast and smart. Fire breath could wipe them all out in one turn if you aren't careful.

It would take some fancy flying, that's for sure. What does everyone else think? Should I give it up for tamtam?

It might. Post an army and we could see.

One hint I might give: take out the dog, and you could probably destroy the drake knights with a couple well played assassins. Actually, hide one in a tower and I'd attack, not realizing it had a surprise inside.

Yep. 300% bonus from uruk pikemen definitely does it. After the drake knights are out of the way, it's just a matter of chasing the workers around in their wagons while they build towers. I'd advise you exchange that orc warrior for a goblin slave, to make your own wagons and shelters so you can have a chance to trap the workers once they no longer have a military escort.

I actually think you got me. You should be able to trap the workers before taking too many losses, just on account that the map has solid edges. If it were an infinitely sized map, I'd still win, but that's not how the game works.

5 skeleton workers (10 pts)
5 gravediggers (20 pts
5 necromancers (15 pts)
1 lich (5 pts)

Since you have no cavalry to speak of, I doubt you could reach this force before it raises an army from the ground. A spirit tower is quickly erected, with wagons and more spirit towers if needed. Corpses become flesh golems or skeletons, for diversity. Soon a force of bone golems joins in from the workers to add even more undead might. The lich can and will attempt to convert anything that gets too close, from inside a bone tower. Assuming, of course, that it isn't better off using a 9 range raise dead to utilize the remains of your fallen soldiers. It can also make a bone dragon or two easily, since gravediggers can be positioned so the corpses come prearranged to make a dragon with.

Might as well have said this army started with TCS, for all that production power
