Map design - How to make intro texts for the maps (html)

Post by Stratego (dev) »

Here i answer how you can modify/create the intro texts for any map you design.

here i try to show you how easy it is:
here is a sample html of a Nyadhos strategy map (you can use notepad to open/create a html file for observing or editing as simple text):

Code: Select all

<style type="text/css">
<!--
.comment {
	color: #003399;
	font-style: italic;
}
-->
</style>

<h2 id="firstHeading" lang="en" xml:lang="en">River Kheonz</h2>
<p class="comment" lang="en" xml:lang="en"><strong>Info: This map is limiting the unit types you can build.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Generalissinyo Fanyos,</strong><br />
  <br />
The Nyadhos High Warcommand has chosen to place you in command of our next operation. Recently the Great War has become called the &lsquo;Sleep War&rsquo;, but our informers say this may end. Our aggressors, the Khermzi Nation have become involved in top secret &ntilde;omin, or &lsquo;science&rsquo; , designed to complete their mastery of technology and perhaps the known world. We have placed a small detachment of byarin, or &lsquo;skilled warriors&rsquo;, under your command for this assignment. Cross the River Kheonz, which serves as the border in the north-west of Khermzi, and prepare a beachhead for an invasion. Use your nyom , or strategy, well.</p>
<p>Communiqyos official of Nyadhos Warcommand&mdash;Commandros Nyadros<br />
</p>
<p><strong>Scout Report</strong></p>
<p> We have been able to secure three transports to cross the river. But also on further reconnaissance we have discovered that there is a ruins of a great bridge. Near the bridge there is a small village that has shaky allegiance toward us and seems to wish to remain uninvolved. The resisting enemy tyor seems to be less than ours. Our forces should have no problem in the accomplishment of any objective.</p>
<p>End transcros direct to Generalissinyo Fanyos. <br />
</p>
0. Open this webpage : https://html-online.com/editor/ (this is an online html editor)
The old link is not so good - they gone paid version: http://online-html-editor.org/

1. Press the "HTML" button, and put the whole SAMPLE HTML text into it, than close the html input window

2. modify the text as you would do in a Microsoft Word by changing the Title (in sample the "River Kheonz") to your map name eg. "My Map Name"

3. delete the rest of the old text and put your text in its place

4. now you can format it any way: paragraphs, bold, italic that look good for you

5. if you are ready, hit the "html" button again to get the html text (copy it into clipboard CTRL+C), put that into a new text file created with notepad (name the textfile as shown below).

6. make sure the textfile has an extension of "htm"

7. IF you are ready you can copy+paste the html text (html code) into the in-game mapeditor flavour text part.

IMPORTANT to make some formatting

A sample here how importat to use it

Not formatted text:
http://www.androidutils.com/forumimage/origy.html

Formatted by me (i am not an expert, i simply dropped things here and there)
http://www.androidutils.com/forumimage/formatted.html

so i believe no one will ever read tru all this long text in the oroginal, but in the second at least the highlighted words and the TIPS will be read.

The site has changed a bit, but when you select a text field the light blue "<>" button on the left side option bar opens the HTML view.
Thanks!

OK I think I got it, because I tried pressing all the buttons and I got to a different view with the.html layout.

I tried inserting that into the CODE snippet for the intro text. Was this correct? In any case I am still learning all about this stuff and need help still.

Yes, since the site has changed a bit, here's what to do:

-delete all objects until you start with nothing
-drag and drop in a normal text from the right side menu
-open html view
-copy/paste in the above code and exit the html view
-edit similarly to Word

Let me know if you need more explaining. :)
Thanks!

I'm a little bit confused... :|

What would be the process for making a good intro text on a smart phone? And what would I do with the file if I am done?

You can now make them in the Map Editor itself.

If you want to make a nice one with bolding, italics, etc. you can always check the play store for an HTML formatter app and then paste it into the map text field in the editor.
Thanks!

I still don't understand this. When I go to the link there is nothing where I can start typing. If you don't have any problem can you make a video of it!
Please I hope you understand my problem.
