Named/Famed Units

What are your thoughts on having famed or extremely well known units being their own thing, you can say they are regarded as elite units that only one can be on the field and have above average stats as well as their own special abilities? Examples would be Easy Company 506th infantry regiment for the US, or for the germans the Panzergrenadier Division Großdeutschland.
