Mortar
Basically a upwards facing cannon, they have long range but can't hit targets that are close to it.

Re: Mortar
Quadrupole made some sprites for it. Wait a while.
This will definitively be in the game

Do you have any planned stats ?

Re: Mortar
I'm thinking move 1, with range similar to that of artillery in AOWW, maybe a little less, and it is very effective against infantry. Is there any way to make it so it can't attack units within a 2 or 3 square radius?

There is already an unpacked/packed version of artillery like aos.

Re: Mortar
I'm no expert on mortars but I think they were kind of effective.

Re: Mortar
right now i am focused on the medieval era units and structures...
i am opened to any idea...
u can suggest stats...it doesnt really matter if its balanced or not (there is no balancing since there is no multiplayer even singleplayer experience)

Re: Mortar
this is just an idea of how artillery is going to work this gameShark guy 35 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:19 am I'm thinking move 1, with range similar to that of artillery in AOWW, maybe a little less, and it is very effective against infantry. -cannon: regular artillery, better against infantry than others
-howitzer: average/standard bonuses, area damage
-mortars: better against buildings
for the very beggining, cannons are not gonna have any bonus vs infantry (1400s artillery was not accuarate)
as long as the game advances, cannons are gonna become effective against infantry, also at late game they obtain "grape shot" ability to massive kill infantry
howitzers will be a midgame artillery
mortars are gonna be aviable after the first era development
+plus+
handcannoneers: are cheaper and have melee atack in adition to shot ability and has better movility, the very early game unit. dissadvantages: receives great damage from anti-infantry units.
ribault: anti infantry artillery for some factions, really deadly against infantry. dissadvatanges: lower health and low movility.
ship artillery will work similar, but its own special abilities and units and those stuffs.
rocket artillery: anti infantry with secondary effects + area damage, nice mobility
About range:
cannons: 4-6
howitzers: 4-5
mortars: 4-7
+plus+
handcannoneers: 3-4
ribault: 4
rockets: 5-8
note: n-N doesnt mean "n" minium range. it means how the ranges cold change deppending on the artillery piece

Re: Mortar
Handcannons should have really low range. They were extremely inaccurate and were mainly used to shock or scare the enemy, didnt actually do very much damage.

Re: Mortar
Thats not right, here in peru are registers of handcannon used during el virreinato breech loading handcannon with a nice range much better than muskets or even riflesSquirrel5555 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:29 pm Handcannons should have really low range. These would be some modern handcannon, not medieval handcannon

This is actually a good explanation of how artillery works here jejeL4cus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:35 amthis is just an idea of how artillery is going to work this gameShark guy 35 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:19 am I'm thinking move 1, with range similar to that of artillery in AOWW, maybe a little less, and it is very effective against infantry. I will make a topic of artillery sub categories and will include this

Re: Mortar
Im talking about the medieval handcannon (the only one we have an image for so i thought we were talking about it). The first iterations were just pipes on sticks and were very inaccurate so had to be used at short range, and even then were ineffective.L4cus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:45 pmThats not right, here in peru are registers of handcannon used during el virreinato breech loading handcannon with a nice range much better than muskets or even riflesSquirrel5555 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:29 pm Handcannons should have really low range. Re: Mortar
Ah, dont worry
Right now they have 3 range but i will reduce it to 2
Btw, this topic is for mortar, if u wanna talk about handcannon, do it on its own topic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortar_(weapon)#History
after Reading a Little about artillery pieces during these periods, i found that mortars were pretty old, i mean, this could be used from the very begining of the game but it wouldbe a buyable unit on the upgrades list
so we will need an early mortar sprite to make it
idk why but i could copy the image lin so here some images

Re: Mortar
Nice image! But I have 2 concerns.
1:Mortar itself is pretty dark, might be hard to see it.
2: Mortar, in my opinion, should have 2 guys operating it.

Re: Mortar
Thanks!
I agree about the crewmembers, will add another one when I get a chance.
I used similar colour scheme to many of the other cannons and mortars, so it should be easily visible. If there are any problems with clearness or visibilty once we test it out in game, I'll change it.

Hmm, I'm not sure how to do that. Horse drawn? Probably dismantled in some sort of small wagon I guess.

Guess it will do for now. For anyone who cares, it is hard to make images while your cat rests its head on your arm.
