I prefer them with gold details and wooden pole, it adds a lot on the details and make them looks more cooler, since it adds something else than team coloring and grayscale.

Updated colours and made a second one without legs to see if it would seem more "phantom" like. (Also since horse armour has no legs).

The issue was merely the fact that the mount wasn't an animated armour, not that they can't have any. You realize axe knight has a shield and was supposed to be able to shield bash right? Axe is fine.
The phantom bull knight wouldn't make your fleshy pet obsolete, it's more armoured and tanky, the one you mentioned looks more like it would a counterpart to the elves tiger rider, it looks more agile looking rather then power based, the phantom bull knight is more power based, with higher armour, hp, and attack (I plan to change weapons to an [1] axe), after the bull knight though I wouldn't make more cavalry for them being that one would be fine, as I said before for the fell wing i plan to turn it into a flying death knight counterpart, meaning it will no longer be apart of the phantoms but would be a new addition to the dark alter, juggernaut would be brought back in its place but would be more scaled down to the other phantoms level and wouldn't be a giant anymore but more of a tanky infantry wich could be slower then the other phantoms but could be given the summon sword (poltergeist) ability as well as have better stats.
It would somewhat look like this but with some slight alterations. But it wouldn't be a shielder.

Oh, ya and the updated bull knight (again th is would be the only cavalry I see the most getting in because it makes sense and would be of great use without making others more useless).

I see, I'll work on that some more, so how many frames you think would be fine? Also what are your thoughts on this "new" juggernaut, fit your specifications of animated armour and no giants? Juggernaut seems fine for 2h swordsman type unit with a good attack
I don't like the bull knight concept to begin with and as I told you before I prefer them being not mounted.

Bull knight, although I still think they should have cavalry, at least 1, or something similar, I'll spare you the long reason of why I think they should have it and just ask to make one for just map editor only with a redesign to the bull to something like this but more phantom looking:

I plan to change the ability over to something less generic and more interesting which would be the delayed vanishing aura, and a similar one that only effects phantom corpses so as to keep them around for at least a little longer until they are either stepped on, the overseer dies or leaves area, or they are reanimated.

Btw that one above seens strange levitating... Try out an armored spectral/ghost horse if the idea is to have uncovered parts... In other words, transparent stuff...

And I take it your referring to this one correct?
I generally was trying to make it look like it's just floating horse armour, but at least someone gets what I'm talking about when I was referring to this. (At least that's what it seems like)
The legs seem to be the only problem being that it I make them actual horse legs then the mount is a live (or undead) mount, if I removed them then it might look wierd, but a ghostly like effect coming from underneath might do the trick.
