Battlefield Blacksmith IMPLEMENTED

Post by SirLuciano » Mon Dec 09, 2019 1:38 am

We need some cheap units that can buff other units instead of having to wait for expensive ones

Like the blacksmith
Hp:15
Dmg:7
Move radius/tiles:7
Buff:sharpen weapons (+3 dmg)
Cost of turns:2

Only exclusive in the blacksmith building

I he was meant to be cheap 2 turn unit, then 10hp max.
Also - buffer is not supposed to have almost the same attack as main military unit (swordsman), so 4 or 5 power is enough to show his strength.
Speed 7 is so absurd I don't even want to comment.
As normal foot unit he could have 3.

And lastly - buff specification - it would have to be 1 range and last only 1-3 turns. Lower turn count could allow another buff +1/0 armor or even two buffs - +1/0 and +0/1, but each lasting 1 turn only.

Then the speed would be 3
Dmg would be 4
And the buff will be changed from a ranged sight to an ability/spell where he can buff a single unit's attack and the buff will last 3 turns
And armor would be 1
And health as you said will be 10

Ok. Stats could be eventually balanced further after other forumers opinions.

The things needed for implementation:
1. unit image (32x32 pixels)
2. buff indicator (8x12 pixels)
3. ability (buff) icon (32x32)
4. arrow (the thing that floats to the target) (32x32)
2-4 are needed for every ability.

how to make the sprite of the unit because I'm using my phone here

You can make avatar by any image manipulation program - it's similar for images for game, but program has to read/use transparency.
When You have the avatar image You can put it by going to User Control Panel / Profile / Edit Avatar (first click on Your username around the right top corner).

Ok I know that but the other question is how you guys make sprites/images for the game like how you and the others have already made the unit's appearances before implementation?it seems like those awarded with medals in this forums and also the devs have the privelege to do that

Some people are allowed dev version of the game can play test version - it's sort of alpha version, that needs to be checked before public beta (the most formal version of the game put in Play Store).
Few people have modded game privilege - meaning they can load changed game assets (it's for testing some new things out).
Each game version (AoS, AoF, AoW) can have current design leader - a person who works like a censor - decides which content can be allowed for implementation and often manages this implementation - for AoS - that's me.
There is only one dev - stratego. The one to rule them all ;). Game creator, programmist, forum administrator etc.

Image can be posted on forum by anyone (but please consider the size). If by medals You mean Hall of Fames - it's quite the contrary. You can be awarded medal there by participating with game creation - by posting self created images (units, icons, projectiles, terrain etc.), publishing maps, helping with translation. This medals do not provide any benefits or privileges. They exist to signify the part one made.

If You really want to help create some images:
Here You can find guidline for unit images.
If You need some already existing image to use as a base message someone who has assets pack.

Wait so basically any members with a creative mind can create images? And to do that I need to download some files?(or the dev version)

You don't need to download anything. You can create the image from the start.
But it sometimes helps to get similar shape. Especially for units.

For ability icon it can be any 32x32 image with transparent background - a Hammer beating the sword on anvil or something like this. The only other rule is black outline.
Projectile can be animation (few 32x32 images put side by side, so the whole file of 8 images would be 256x32 px) or simple image - just like icon - transparent background and black outline.
Indicator is a little harder because of limited size.

I'll attach samples:

Please read entire Unit design - image requirements topic. It really has some useful information.
You can use any image manipulation program, that can work with transparency.
The best is Gimp - it's free and powerful. The only downside is, that it requires PC.
For editing on the phone/tabled You can Yous e.g. Pixly.

It's quite good for the first approaches.

But one of the hands looked weird, so I tried to correct it. Along with it made few other changes.

Wow thanks for fixing the design :D it looks better now

Now what stats would the "sharpen weapon"ability/spell give the targeted unit I know its gonna be additional damage
Would it be +3 damage or +5?

And is it too much to give it a stun ability for his hammer?

If you have to ask, then the answer is yes, it is too much.

Since he wields a hammer, not whetstone, I'm thinking he can be the armor mender, and we can have a different unit that gives sharpening buff. Like maybe weapons smith.

Or

Maybe he can do both (with 1 action it can't be op) improve armor and sharpen weapons. Adding 2 could be cluttering.

Improve armor for +1 armor +1 pierce (unupgraded skirmishers already survive 1 attack from swordsman. More would make shielders, and upgrades too resistant)

Then it is decided the blacksmith will be a single unit buffer not a ranged sight like the roman generals that can defend itself

I realized that this ability defeats the purpose of being a cheap unit

Idk what tools that they use to differentiate each other all I know is that they both use hammers

Your stats suggestion is good then the Blacksmith's spells are gonna be "sharpen weapon" and "mend armor" and it will take his turn away
