Hi all!

I am about to learn Unity, i made a few lectures and sampleprojects already, but i will really learn it if i make a complete project.

So i posted this to gather some ideas about a 3d game, that is not so big but still fun to play can be a one player or multiplayer, and actually can be any genre (FPS, TPS, Tower defense, platformer, adventure, arcde, some pet managing game for toddlers or even some kind of strategy :) so anything that seems fun to make and play)

thanks!

Sounds great and interesting, maybe like a city or civilization management game or perhaps indeed just a tower defense. Those are some ideas.

How about a biology game where you can restructure bodies, and unlike Spore, every limb and organ has a dynamic effect on the organism and how it interacts with the world?

Hi,
my idea's vary depending on if its gonna be a pc or a mobile game.

Mobile:
as a first simple project some kind of AOS based Tower Defense with like 6 units (top down or sidescroller)
is always goods to get a grasp of the basics (maybe something more unique like Crafters of War).
there are alot of smaller projects that take about a week to make such as a very basic procedually generated aos
based dungeon crawler or swarm defense or even some kind of Clash of clans or any battle simulator (TABS etc) also AOS themed maybe

PC: for PC i would love a Total war similar gajme but thats a shitton of work and prolly too much to mask for. making a mod of zhose games would
prolly do the trick.
but here again i would love to see some real time multiplayer action going on in the AOS/AOF/AOWW etc universe wich could be any kind of RTS
(economy driven rts(like AOE) or pure combat RTS. it doesent really matter.

For graphics: there are alot of '"free" 3d models out there and blender is somehwat ez to pick up with youtube but still making a good loooking 3d
model takes up to a week EACH so i guess it would be too much work for you to create an entire game in that theme so id say rather stay to rather grid based 2d games unless you find a 3d artist or a set of free 3d models to work with.

unity was my engine of choice for a while i rlly like it but its documentation is kinda bad and its hard to get things to work that the engines does not solve for you since its performance can struggle relatively fast.

thanks!

basically mobile (andorid + ios) but from unity it can be exportaed as pc game too.

3d: i would like to try 3d first, and yes joing with free assets - as i thought it to be a smaller projext - later we can make our own models.

the ones you mentioned are a little too big, except a tower defense that can work.

I liked the idea of Aos/Aof Tower defense version, i used to play a lot BTD games and its pretty good to start there with it...

Btw... What about rebuilding aos/aof with unity engine? Firstly as turn based, then as real time setting like RTS... I know the Unity engine can handle it very easy...

Also, you can try a 3D RPG medieval game, being 1st or 3rd person, where you control some soldier and fights in a bigger battle...

thanks!

tower defense is ok!

rebuilding aof/aos: that would be a little big task, about 1-2 years :)

rpg: good! (but i am afraid that would need many many 3d assets to not be boring.)

Yeah something like that Sim like, or perhaps something that would resemble risk the game.

ok here are the current ideas for the first project, please tell me which u like best and naturally suggest new if u have idea

1. Making AOS or AOW in unity (which has less special unit abilities), in first step: only local games with some basic AI, no multiplayer, no mapeditor, no map-market, no random games - nothing but all current campaigns maps playable. - cost roughly about 1-2 months.
(if this would be fully ready than you could play the AOS games on iOS and on PC also - but that is a long way to get there :))

2. Making a memory game
(little differing than classic: having special cards: wurm cards, mine cards, travelling cards. modes: collect 2 pair, 3 pair 4 pair games, without multiplayer at first. Also not only "cards" but some other maybe 3D environment like a pyramid or on a sphere there are "Slots" to open close. Maybe opening with targeting a "gun" or something. cost: few weeks (2-5).

3. Tower defense game: i have no idea what theme or what special (to make it differing from existing millions of such game :)) - cost about 1 month

4. Pu55inboots biology game: this sounded intersting but idk nothing about it.

here makaw voted for a tower defense game, i can imagine it in a very different basis then AOS engine. definitely a new 3D thing or 2D but different arts and mechanisms.

Hi,
Porting aos or aow etc to pc sounds nice but i think its quiet alot of work not only to make but then later to keep updated so id say
rather start with the tower defense.

For that i quiet like swordfall kingdoms, games like bit battle (wich have multiple 'lanes' so it adds strategic value) but also games like
strategy defense 2 or some tower defense modes of rts games.
but over all of them i truly ADORE and love Kingdoms under siege.

PLS watch into kingdom under siege by easytech. if you could make a tower defense game like that WITH multiplayer it would be a huge success
for startegy fans.

I want to see tower defence in aos style. Turns and such, no additional recources apart from turns.

Totally forgot to say this, there's a game called pixel dungeon. And there is a lot of version of it because it's open source and I'm pretty sure the rest are as well.

Interesting special feature in TD game
- multiplayer- you can build the "road" where enemy goes
- enemy shoots back not just walk tru the path (AI enemy)
- wizard intervention by the player.(like dropping a fireball spell on incoming enemy)
- player can "go in" to fight with a a character against them (like an FPS part in the game)

tell me if u know more to mention.

Supply line game? War but you can make supply lines in anyway you want governed by user declared points. The ability to make plan b-any in case if a point is captured/any other event.
