Designrules

Here talk about units and structures.
IMPORTANT!: Every unit type and structure type should be in a separate topic.
So if you have a new unit idea than open a new topic for it!

Designrules

Post by patroid »

Hi
I think we should make some designrules for this units.:
-Colorization(NOT TEAMcolors, Countrycolors):
German:Grey(everytime soldiers and machienes)
American:lightbrown
Frensch:Skyblue
British:Darkgreen
Russia:dark or light red (idk wich is better)
and so on.
Please post other nations and your suggested colorization(That i can complete list)

Maybe we can also combine the flags and the team color:

Per example: Japanese Flag with circle im player color, ...

The difference (as I see) between TEAM color and NATION color must be maintained.

So NATION color behaves much like the Races in AoF. I think the nations should (eventually) have different looking icons. I have a slight issue with your list though, Patroid. You will recall that your 'Tiger' German Heavy tank was done in brown. I think German - brown, American - light green, USSR - dark red, Japanese - light red... so on.

Nation flags can be incorporated into the unique designs (ie Japanese ship can have a small flag). BUT I think it should be kept separate from PLAYER colors.

PLAYER colors maybe should be shown as a small flag in the upper corner showing which PLAYER owns the unit regardless of the NATION color.

Please tell me what you think. :)
Thanks!

Hello all!
We need to work out a system of Nation colors before drawing too many more units. I'm even willing to compromise at the expense of recoloring a few of my destroyers for the sake of unity.
Thanks!

So is this the list, then? Please let me know if it is accepted, so we can draw more units. :)

Allies:

British - Dark Green (They are in the destroyers, but I can change it if need be... maybe grey?)
American - Light Green
French - Light Sky blue

Axis:

German - Can it be Brown?
Japanese - Light Red
Italian - Orange

Eastern Bloc:

USSR - Dark Green W/ Red Highlights
Partisan - Wooden Color W/ Red Highlights
Thanks!

Sorry to interrupt but i dont think this heavy color differrentiation will work.

like orange, light blue: they are not real unit colors.

i think nation differentiation can be done by different looking units (different type of units) eg: a Sherman will never look like a Tiger regardless of their armor color.

so think is good to have
- grey / dark grey
- green
- lgreen
- desert colored
and we can assign them nations eg: most german is grey, most american is lgreen, british is dark green.

but please avoid orange and so on non realistic painting colors.

the main thing is every nation had their own type of unit, and in look (in shape) they can be differentiated.

so i suggest using color not as nation but unit differentiation option.

eg: if an american tank is very similar in design to a german (i dont know such) than we can use the color differentiation too to make them different.

summarized:
- it is ok to have a general colors for nations (using realistic colors),
- but we dont need to stick to that: eg. a german army can have a few green colored unit too if you had to use color for unit differentiation (or use mixed colors on one unit! grey+green)
- most important: every single unit on its own should look realistic in color: should not have a color was never used in warfare.

(i hope i was understandable - my english is not so clear :))

Moreover!
I suggest using the nation markings on units.
eg: the german blue white cross or something see here: http://worldwar2headquarters.com/HTML/t ... zerIV.html

so this is the real thing that should differentiate.

summarizing again to differentiate the look one type of tank from an other is
1. the shape (it must be the most differentiating thing)
2. the sign on it (eg. the blue-white cross for german)
3. and in last place: the coloring (painting)
