unit - Winged Polish hussars - IMPLEMENTED v0.998

Post by Stratego (dev) »

from David:
Polish hussars ,or winged polish hussars ,was one of the best cavalry units in history.
I'll gladly see them in the game. They saved Vienna in 1683 from Turkish siege.

see different pictures below - armor, weapon, wings etc.

I tried a shot at the image. I assume, Daniel, that since you forwarded the request, you will be inclined to put in this unit. :) Tell me what you think.

Someone needs to make a map of the Siege of Vienna and put it in the Historical Battles section.

the image is good!
i suggest
- removing on of the wings (especially the one that is closer to the head of the horse) the one wing on his back is enough i think!
- team coloring should be little more characteristic i think - if you color only the thin leather on horse head than it will not be enough i think.

coool!
i also suggest some modification on the rod emerging from behind horse head - is that a banner ? or a spear?
(unfortunately it looks a little like it was headpiece of the horse - maybe because the rider could not hold 2 things at the same time: 1 sword and a spear/banner)

maybe try it without the rod.

On the Wikipedia link, they were said to use bow + scimitar + lance. Here is without the banner/spear.

I have a nice scimitar image which you might use.
This is Hungary and winter is coming.

Balint: if you can make the scimitar look better, you are welcome to do so. :)

Ejm29: That is a bow/quiver. (I think that's what you are talking about.) ;)

You might want to edit the bow a little bit, the arrows and quiver look great. But the bow looks a tiny bit like a antler. Probably just me

bow, arrows quiver? where? i did not see them :)

i suggest making it simple: we dont need to put many things on him
- take a bare knight or any suitable horseman
- change clothes as we need / even the horse equipment like you did nicely
- put a wing on the back
- put one kind of weapon into his hand
and we are ready.

my suggestion
(the more we put on him the less nice and recognizable it will be - i think)

dont forget!: it looks nice! but remove unnecessary stuff - i suggest.

Bows, battle axes, lances and hammers where used. (Look under armor and weaponry) :)

ok but in 32x32 you can carry only 1 weapon :)
coolguy: dont forget that the wings can overlap the tile above! so it can be a 40x32 image too!

Sorry. I do not think that I will be much help for the stats. I am blissfully ignorant of much European history in the Middle Ages. :)

Based on the knights stats, the Wikipedia entry and some editing I made some quick stats. Might be a bit unbalanced, but they are a start :)

Cost 6-8
Hp35
Attack power 12
Range 1*
Armor 2
Pierce armor 2
Speed 6
Sight 4
Action/turn 1
Spell resistance 0%
Size 1/1
Builders tc, stable, castle? (They seem royal)

They also seem like a special unit. Perhaps a ability would make them a bit different.

They said they carry bows. Maybe a week ranged attack?

:)

I think they should be unconvertible as they are a "national unit". Like the Spartan.

Let us balance him to the Spartan, since he is the only other national unit. Obviously because he is mounted, the Pole should be very effective against the Spartan. So costing 9 turns to make maybe he is faster than a heavy knight and can mow down most infantry. His weakness is either pike or arrow.
Wikipedia said they used lances but there is none in the image.

But I do not really know what I am talking about. :)
Thanks!

dont get confused wit "national unit" feeling, you can have a 2 turn cost but special national unit also a 10 turn cost nationsl unit. turn cost an properties do not connected toe natinalism :)
